Many hotels have fallen victim to these scams: hackers use booking platforms such as Booking.com or Expedia.com to fraudulently obtain customers’ bank details.

This “social engineering” phenomenon is on the increase, especially during the summer months: under the pressure of having their vacations cancelled, victims hand over their data without taking the time to check the legitimacy of the request.
